This course introduces various theories of crisis counseling and trauma therapy; such as, critical incident stress management (CISM) and debriefing (CISD). A second emphasis are trauma models of therapy: trauma and dissociation, assessments, treatments, and therapies. Special cases will focus on grief, sexual assault, sexual abuse, and relational trauma.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
This course will introduce the learner to current trauma treatment approaches both from evidence-based research and a biblical foundation. Learners will:
- Work through essential reference materials [texts], which will serve as future guides for interviewing, counseling, and working with trauma
- Be exposed to numerous treatment modalities used by experts in traumatology and be given the chance to try some of these on their own
- Be impacted by the power and impact of sexual abuse.
